Ya i got my new HDD today le! Yeah! Its a notebook HDD with a casing to USB.
HDD: Western Digital, 80GB, 2.5", 5200rpm, 2mb cache, EIDE, 3yrs warranty Casing: Lexcron 2.5" Blueghost, one month warranty Total cost: $149
Left: The casing, mine is silver Right: The HDD
Ya its not cheap i noe...i expected $120 or less...Well i got Norton PartitionMagic and formatted it in FAT32, which the Windows default proggy wun allow that for anything more than 32GB. Now its should be compatible with Windows, Macs and Linux.
Why me wanna buy an external one? Simple, i got my whole chunk of music, system, documents and programs on my 40GB Drive C. I got my games, videos, Photoshop images, Linux stuff, photos in my 20GB Drive L. I needa delete one game to install another...cos no space. And see my files are so spreaded out...combining both drives to become a large one would be tedious.
Solution: Use an external HDD and put all my meda (music, video, Photoshop images, photos) inside. It oso allow me to bring them along with me, which is more practical for media files. I could put my Linux stuff in oso since its FAT32.
The system, documents and programs remain in Drive C, now without alll my music there shld be a lot a lot more free space. Drive L will be just for games.
When i get richer, i will buy a larger internal HDD and start afresh. Windows is easy to reinstall and so are the programs (i did them sooo many times on my dad's comp since he crashes his comp so often). The only trouble i used to have is a diversed and huge collection of media which is now just a copy and paste frm my external HDD. Then it shall be used for backups.
How old is my comp? 4 years? 4 years is for the motherboard and casing...I replaced almost all of the rest inside....
